Psychology in the world we live in today

An evening exploring how psychology shows up in everyday modern life — from screens and stress to the mental load — with psychology educator Andrea Cole.

About the talk

Why does a full inbox feel so exhausting? Why do some conversations flow while others stall? And why is saying no so hard? Andrea Cole will show how a better understanding of psychology can help us navigate the busy, connected, and often demanding world we live in. She'll explore:

  • Digital technology and cognitive offloading — what happens when our phones remember for us
  • Personality and communication — the dynamics that shape how we connect with others
  • The fight response — how modern stressors can trigger an ancient survival mechanism
  • Stress and the body — what stress does to us, and simple ways to tackle it that fit into every day
  • The mental load — the weight of caring for others, advocating for a fairer share, and why it's okay to say no

The talk is followed by a Q&A, so bring your questions for Andrea.

Whether you're new to Zurich or have lived here for decades, you're warmly welcome.
